Bible Study

Just how did Jesus train His disciples?  He called them to walk with him, be with him, be His helpers, and He taught them.  Psalm 1 describes the blessed man who meditates in God’s Word day and night. Bible Study is an intensely personal journey.  The truths within the Bible must be applied to our lives in order that we might experience a closer more intimate relationship with God.  His Word is the foundation for life and Bible Study is one of the most important activities in our daily lives.

In accordance with one of our Church Purposes --Teach, our Pastor truly believes in teaching God’s Word to believers and he admonishes us to apply God’s Word to our lives.  He provides a framework by which we can hear God speaking through His Word and make personal application to our lives. His teaching empowers us to become doers of the Word and not just a hearer. His teaching employs three basic techniques:

  • Observation
  • Interpretation
  • Application

The Scripture is the Word of God which is the source of the Christian life.  Pastor Morgan is a master of expository teaching that “bridges the gap” between the 1st and the 21st century and presents the true and exact meaning of the Biblical author in a manner that is relevant to the 21st Century audience. At Abiding Faith we think of Bible Study is an adventure – as God’s Word constantly unfolds on the pages of His Holy Bible, the Holy Spirit brings it to life in our daily walk.

Both adult and children’s Bible Study are experienced on Wednesday nights at 7:45 p.m.  Our Pastor uses this time to expound on God’s Word in a manner that is clear, precise and easily understood by listeners.  He teachers with conviction, knowledge, and the Power of the Holy Spirit.  Growth is being experienced as we gather to explore God’s truth through the study of His Word.

Baptist Training Union

The Baptist Training Union (BTU) Ministry provides spiritual enrichment; gives training with practical application in Christian doctrine, develop believers to be effective in the role of Christian leadership and discipline as we focus on the life and work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Training helps to equip saints to be productive and educated members of our Church and the community and become more knowledgeable of our Baptist doctrine.

The G.I.F.T. Academy

The G.I.F.T. ACADEMY stands for Giving Instructions For Tomorrow. The main goal of this ministry is to serve the needs of the community by assisting youth with tutorial services and other educational needs.

Children's Church

The Children's Church is held during the regular church worship hours.  Children learn to worship God on their level by following an order of service that is relevant to their spiritual and developmental level.

Praise and Prayer Service

Has God done something great in your life recently? We want to hear about it!  And then we want to praise God through prayer for your victory!!  No matter how great or small the victory, we would like to celebrate it with you by thanking God for His deliverance!!

The purpose of our Praise and Prayer hour is to glorify our God almighty, and provide a place where we share what God is doing in our lives. Our God is an awesome God, and our living testimonies are proof of that.  Join is at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday nights and let us share in your praise of how God has blessed your life and remain as we praise Him through prayer and worship at 8:15 P.M.!

 Sunday School

Purpose —The purpose of the Sunday School is to:

Teach sound doctrine for spiritual growth and development;

To enhance knowledge, understanding and application of the Scripture;

To produce Transformational Teachers of God’s Word;

To equip God’s people for service; and

To reach the lost and mature the saved.

The expression, “one size fits all” certainly does not apply when it is viewed within the context of teaching Sunday School.  At Abiding Faith Baptist Church we have teachers and classes for every age and stage of life:

Primary/Beginners (Ages 2-8) discovering that God who helped David to slay the giant will protect him when he is alone in the dark in his room at night; discovering that God loves him/her; it’s learning about the miracles of Jesus and knowing that God can do anything and always wants to do what is best for her/him;

Juniors (Ages 9-12) studying together the wonders of God’s creation, and realizing that disobedience brings punishment; but that God’s mercy provides a Savior to take the punishment for their sin;

Teens/young people (Ages 13-17) learning that God has a plan for their lives and He will lead each of them if they will listen to His voice;

Young Adults (Ages 18-34) discovering that God is all wise and He will "shed His light" on all who are willing to follow;

Adults (Ages 35 and up) focusing on God’s Word as they worship and fellowship together; realizing that it is indeed a "service manual" for every Christian;

Harvester’s (All Ages). Equipping disciples to share their faith by reaching out in different ways to spread the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. This is a 12-wk study course that empowers members to share the Good News with conviction, knowledge and boldness.

Baptism Class (All Ages).  At Abiding Faith, baptism is a wonderful, once in a lifetime event celebrating the beginning of the Christian life. Our baptism practice is the believer's baptism by immersion as a symbol and sign of the decision to put his/her faith in Jesus Christ, and to trust in His sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of their sins.

Children and adults who have made a decision to accept Christ as their Savior will attend Baptism Class where the plan of salvation and baptism are explained and the candidates taught to understand what a commitment to Christ means through baptism by immersion.  The Baptism Class is a pre-requisite for baptism at Abiding Faith Baptist Church.  Classes are held each Sunday during Sunday School hour from 9:30-10:30 A.M.

The standard class runs for 4 sessions.  The amount of time needed will be at the discretion of the teacher and will be contingent upon the student’s understanding and comprehension of the results of the decision he/she has made.

It’s Teachers --teaching, loving and praying for their students, applying each lesson to their own lives before they teach it to others. It is organized efforts to teach God’s Word to students of every age in the language they can understand and in such a manner that the truth of God’s Word will be lived out in their lives.

It’s Superintendents, organizing, planning, encouraging, counseling, visioning, teaching, evaluating, assessing, listening, supporting, nurturing and guiding in various settings that enable teachers to grow in their understanding of the Bible and their Christian faith so that they may live as disciples of Christ and that they might be transformational teachers—teachers who change lives through their teaching.

It’s our Pastor meeting with new members in the New Member Orientation Class—teaching them more about our Baptist doctrine and the basics of our beliefs, enabling them to gain an understanding of the operation of our church and its history.  This also gives new members the opportunity to become acquainted with others like themselves who are new to the church.  It helps them become firm in their commitment to Christ and assists them in identifying where their talents can best be used.  New members must complete the orientation in order to hold offices in the Church.

The New Member Orientation Class meets at 9:30 a.m. during our Sunday School hour.

And, most importantly, it's the Holy Spirit, working within the Sunday School, transforming both teachers and students into mature and committed Christian men and women.

Sunday School begins at 9:30 A.M. on Sunday mornings and ends at 10:30 A.M.
