Meet our Pastor!

Pastor Bobby Ray Morgan serves as founding pastor of The Abiding Faith Baptist Church in Missouri City, Texas.  He is a native “Dallasonion”, and holds a BS Degree from the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas.  He served in the United States Marine Corps receiving an Honorable Discharge.

Pastor Morgan was called to the ministry in 1973, preached his first sermon in 1973, and began Pastoring in1974.  He has held positions at Lee Spring Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas and Briarchase Baptist Church, Missouri City, Texas. During his leadership at Briarchase, the church grew from 50 members to well over 1000.

Abiding Faith began in 1992, with 93 members and now embraces hundreds of families coming together in worship and praise to a Mighty God!  When those 93 faithful members joined with him in October 18, 1992, at Briargate Elementary School, who would have thought the Lord would lead Him to such a great ministry as Abiding Faith Baptist Church in Missouri City, Texas! But, He did!

In October, 1992, Pastor Morgan became Founding Pastor of Abiding Faith Baptist Church. Since its inception, God well over thousands (currently active 697), have received the right hand of fellowship into the membership.  Of these, 8 ministers have accepted their calling under his leadership and currently10 ministers serve under his guidance.

Pastor Morgan is blessed and anointed by God to lead Abiding Faith to become a community of believers who strive to fulfill The Great Commission – preach, teach and lead lost souls to Christ. He is endowed with many talents and gifts that accentuate his ministry and he uses each one to the utmost as he strives to carry out the divine purpose of Christ. He is tenacious in his teaching, devout in his living; and uncompromising in his preaching.

Pastor Morgan is married 41 years, to Sylvia Harlan Morgan, his elementary school “sweetheart,” and they have three very loving and supportive children, Sammie, Nicole and Robert (recently, himself, called to the ministry); two grandchildren, T’Nese and Timothy and one great-grand.

Sylvia Harlan Morgan

Sylvia (Harlan) Morgan was born and went to school in Dallas, Texas, where she met Bobby R. Morgan, and married after graduating. Soon afterwards they moved to Houston.

Sylvia worked at Texas Department of Human Resources in several capacities for over twenty-five years; including a position with the Child Care Licensing Division.

As a Human Services Specialist, her responsibilities included the licensing of child care facilities and private schools, training providers, monitoring compliance with the state’s minimum standards and the investigation of complaints, among others.

Sylvia enjoys working with and helping people. Upon her retirement, she earned a Master of Education in Counseling degree from the University of Houston, with a plan to become a licensed family therapist. Sylvia is the President of the Deaconess Ministry, the Women of Faith Auxiliary and Chorus, and the Sunday School, where she serves faithfully.

Share Groups

Within the life of the Church the role of the Share Group Leader ranks among of the most significant. The Share Group Leader is essential in ministering to members and/or families within the Church by demonstrating an interest in their lives and providing support and encouragement at particular times of need.

Each new member and/or family is joined with a deacon (and deaconesses), who joins with our pastor in ministering to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of each church member and family.

As a crucial "chain" the Share Group Leader is a channel of communication, linking our church family together by keeping them in touch with what is happening in the life of the Church and additionally,  keeping  our Pastor informed, as appropriate, on the lives of the members under their specific care.

This is done through the following:

  • Keeping in contact with their assigned members of their Share Groups through home visits (as appropriate), and (monthly) telephone checks.
  • Notifying our Pastor when additional support might be appropriate.
  • Witnessing, when appropriate, to an unsaved family member.
  • Rejoicing with members when they celebrate important events and/or accomplishments.
  • Supporting in times of crisis
  • Encouraging when members are facing difficulties or other times of distress;
  • Listening to concerns, and assuring members that they are important to the Church family.
  • Praying without ceasing in all situations.

Members and families are encouraged to call the Share Group Leader at any time there is a need. If you are unaware as to who your Leader is please call the church office at 281.437.9595.
